A parametric study of sour corrosion was conducted and is presented in this paper to provide a better understanding of corrosion in sour gas environments. Various parameters that are known to affect the corrosion rate were evaluated and their impacts on corrosion rate are discussed.

Analysis of corrosion of carbon steel in sour and sweet environments. Non-classical nature of localized pitting corrosion of carbon steel in sour and sweet environments explained. Description of a model to predict internal pitting corrosion of carbon steel under sour and sweet environments,
The corrosive effects of iron monosulfide deposited on carbon steel surfaces were investigated in autoclave experiments. The H2S and CO2 partial pressures were 1 to 20 bar. Temperatures were 10-120 °C. The test solutions consisted of high-salinity brine and low-salinity condensed water. Typical duration was 14 days. Weight loss and localized corrosion data were obtained.
This paper describes the formation of a mackinawite scale on carbon steel in a borate buffer pH = 8.4. Then, it was exposed to different buffers with lower pH. The integrity of the scale and the corrosion occurring underneath was monitored with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
The hydrogen collection method is used widely. In this paper we present preliminary measurements from a newly developed device based on the hydrogen collection method of flux measurement, which enables readings to be taken from up to four external probes sequentially, within a short time.
An improved sour corrosion model was developed based on: • A bare steel sour electrochemical corrosion model, derived from published literature • Mechanisms that affect scale performance and trigger localised corrosion • A specific elemental sulphur degradation mechanism • Corrosion mitigation strategy
This study investigates the behaviour of the API X80 steel in relation to hydrogen absorption in solutions with different concentrations of H2S, at static and tensile test conditions.
Black tar-like fouling material was driving frequent shut-downs of a gas plant. Analysis indicated that the nitrogen containing corrosion inhibitor (CI) polymerized with sulfur compounds in a vulcanization process. Testing confirmed the role of the CI in creating this fouling.
This paper presents environmental performance data on welded nickel alloy under high temperature, high pressure, ‘ultra-sour’ conditions. Welded coupons of nickel alloy UNS N06625 were subjected to three levels of nominal stress and tested for 30 days.
A comprehensive parametric study was performed using a small-scale laboratory setup with the aim of investigating the occurrence of localized corrosion of mild steel in marginally sour environments.
In this paper, the scaling mode at the early stage of carbon steel exposed to H2S environments with short exposure time were investigated. Corrosion exposure tests and linear polarization resistance (LPR) techniques were performed.
Sour corrosion phenomena observed in laboratory testing as it related to the microstructural features of UNSC72900. This was investigated through a parametric study of varying temperature and levels of H2S and chloride.
