The corrosive effects of iron monosulfide deposited on carbon steel surfaces were investigated in autoclave experiments. The H2S and CO2 partial pressures were 1 to 20 bar. Temperatures were 10-120 °C. The test solutions consisted of high-salinity brine and low-salinity condensed water. Typical duration was 14 days. Weight loss and localized corrosion data were obtained.
The corrosive effects of iron monosulfide particles deposited on carbon steel surfaces were investigated in a series of autoclave experiments. The H2S and CO2 partial pressures were varied in the range of 1-20 bar. Experiments were run at temperatures in the range of 10-120 oC. The test solutions consisted of high-salinity brine (100 g/L NaCl, 0.0025 m bicarbonate) and low-salinity condensed water (0.1 g/L NaCl). The duration of the tests was typically 14 days. Both weight loss corrosion and localized corrosion data were obtained. The entire surfaces of the exposed coupons were scanned with a 3D profilometer, obtaining detailed data on localized corrosion morphology, pit frequency and pit depths. The presence of FeS deposits was found to significantly increase both weight loss and local penetration rates in experiments with high H2S/CO2 partial pressures (20-25 bar total). The results are discussed on the background of available literature.

A parametric study of sour corrosion was conducted and is presented in this paper to provide a better understanding of corrosion in sour gas environments. Various parameters that are known to affect the corrosion rate were evaluated and their impacts on corrosion rate are discussed.

An experimental study of corrosion of carbon steel in the presence of H2S, CO2 and acetic acid has been carried out. H2S and CO2 partial pressures up to 10 bar each were applied, with temperatures of 25 and 90oC.
