Innovations in the 1990s included a combined weathering and corrosion method validated by SSPC and automotive methods that improved comparative test results by varying the relative humidity and periods of wetness. Problems remained due to limitations in corrosion test chamber technology and the test methods designed around them. The automotive industry responded with new technical requirements for a new generation of test standards and chambers. As a result, today’s corrosion tests offer the promise of realistic results combined with high repeatability.
