Surface Prof le Effects: What We Know/What We Don’t Know/What We Should Know

The SpringHouse Country Market is a local country store, creamery and eatery located on over 400 acres of farmland in Washington, Pennsylvania. Known for their baked goods, the onsite 700-square-foot commercial bakery kitchen featured commercial sheet vinyl flooring. Due to many repairs and deterioration, the floor needed to be replaced. The owners consulted with a respected floor contractor who recommended they replace the vinyl sheet material with a coating material that would be attractive, seamless and durable.

The Springhouse Country Market and Restaurant has been a local icon for over 40 years. The commercial bakery floor had been covered for years with a commercial sheet vinyl that would fail in spots due to the infiltration of water and cleaning materials at the seams. This resulted in the need to repair the sheet material several times which created a patchwork effect. Finally, the owner reached out to a flooring professional to discuss a new renovation solution. They recommended a seamless epoxy and polyaspartic floor coating system that would eliminate future sheet good disbondment problems and would be easier to maintain. This presentation will
cover some background on the problem and what necessitated the change, the reason why a multi-coat system was chosen, and what the owner hoped to achieve with the new solution. The presentation will also discuss the epoxy and polyaspartic coating technologies that were utilized, the process used to remove the sheet, the cleaning and preparation of the old concrete, and the application of the pigmented epoxy primer, decorative chips and clear high performance polyaspartic topcoat that made up the final system. The process was well documented with pictures and videos which will augment the discussion visually.
