Guidelines for establishing minimum requirements to ensure proper application and performance of plant-applied, fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coatings to the external surfaces of pipe. Historical Document 2002
Procedure for the application of a coating system to the interior surfaces of...railroad steel tank cars used...in the transportation of concentrated (90 to 98%) sulfuric acid at ambient temperatures. Historical Document 1992
Like many other areas Phoenix Arizona has unique coatings/linings guide specifications for secondary containment structures. Each entity drafts specifications to fit the particular needs of the project. Each specification has nuances that make it unique. The one thing the majority of them have in common is ACCOUNTABILTY . The word alone should keep everyone on their toes. The focus of this paper is to look at a few nuances the City of Phoenix brings to the table which may or may not make you think.
DOWNLOADABLE HISTORICAL DOCUMENT. Linings to protect against general or pitting corrosion of metal tanks and vessels in oilfield operations at atmospheric or elevated pressure. Design and fabrication. Selection. Surface prep. Application. Inspection.
There are several design factors that need to be considered when specifying coatings in water and wastewater concrete structures. Issues include treating surfaces with exposed aggregate, with a low pH, and exposed reinforcing steel. This paper will present three examples of important design considerations based on field experiences that can avert lining performance problems and impacts on a project schedule or budget. Specific examples from a number of projects will be used to illustrate these design considerations.
This paper will discuss; the pros and cons of the alternative corrosion protection methods which were considered; the rationale for the system(s) selected; and the challenges overcome during the ten-month installation period.
Today’s water-based intumescent coatings provide improved fire resistance, allowing architectural exposed structural steel (AESS) to be featured prominently. This article examines the environmental/health benefits of water-based coatings over traditional, solvent-based coatings, and provides recommendations on how to apply these materials in a safe and attractive manner and ensure long-term performance.
High performance fluoropolymer resin systems for coatings applications have been commercially available for years. These technologies provide the owner a coating system that will far outperform other coatings in terms of exterior performance, most notably in chalk and fade retention. This paper will discuss the chemistry of the two primary types of fluoropolymer resins utilized in the protective and architectural coatings markets and explore the mechanisms by which they provide improved exterior durability. Additionally, the benefits of fluoropolymer coatings will be explored in specific applications.
Eco-friendly technologies are already on the rise in most marine and offshore industries. Ship owners, shipbuilders and paint manufacturers have seriously considered reduction of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and CO2 emission. Also, IMO (International Maritime Organization) has enacted new regulations through MEPC (Marine Environment Protective Committee) 63 in 2011.
Choosing the right colors for any paint job is very important and can be fun. Remember when you were a child and got a coloring book for your birthday? Imagine if your canvas for coloring wasn’t bound pages, but rather the amazing Brooklyn Bridge. Wouldn’t that be exciting?
The intent of this presentation will be to briefly analyze the evolution of the steel surface preparation market by focusing on three common methods for steel surface preparation used today (i.e., dry abrasive blasting, wet abrasive blasting and ultra-high-pressure blasting (UHP)) and the effects of water and additives on cleanliness, degree of surface preparation, coating integrity and coating adhesion. This presentation will include test results comparing the effects and results of different forms of surface preparation and the resulting coating application characteristics.
