As a Central source for water distribution, emergency services, and communications transmission, the Penn Avenue Tower represents a focal point for the City of Richfield, Minnesota. The 1.5-million-gallon water tower is a multi-column elevated style tank located in a residential and commercial business area on shared property with the City’s No. 2 Fire Station. An engineering evaluation identified the need for complete replacement and maintenance repair of exterior and interior coating systems, along with accessory modifications.

This presentation is designed to provide the details that must be considered when tackling the application of polyaspartic liquids, including crew training, crew personnel selection, work area organization, environmental conditions, application techniques and unique applications.
The use of an Aromatic Polyurea lining in an effluent wastewater clarifier tank in Idaho in the Spring of 2017. This clarifier is owned by one of the world’s largest privately held companies with a proven track record in the Wastewater Industry. The clarifier is constructed out of carbon steel for the wall sections with about 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) of surface area. The floor of the clarifier is concrete and was not coated during the project as the coating on the concrete floor was still in good overall condition.
The paper will outline the following: 1. Process from when a customer approaches the polyurea supplier with a set of problems they need to overcome and the important issue of understanding what the customer and the job requirements really are. 2. How to evaluate and determine if the products you have available are suitable or not. 3. The process of having the customer write specifications based on what the applicator can realistically deliver and accomplish.

This paper provides an objective review of the life cycle costs of zinc-rich coating systems used in moderate industrial exposure environments. The coating systems include conventional inorganic/organic coatings, galvanizing, and thermal sprayed metal coatings (metallizing). This paper presents the laboratory qualification program utilized to compare four lining systems for application down to -10°C (14°F). The lining systems were applied and cured at -10 °C (14 °F). Cure of the lining systems was monitored using differential scanning calorimetry and adhesion testing, while the performance of the linings was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and autoclave and standard atlas cell testing. One of the four lining systems, Product C, a 71% volume solids epoxy that contained zinc phosphate, exhibited the most potential for low temperature field implementation.
