The paint and coatings industry has witnessed significant change over the past 50 years. These changes have been driven by many factors including VOC mandates, safety concerns, advanced polymers and new demands of the end users and materials. One of those changes was the introduction of desiccant dehumidification to assist in the blast and coatings process of liquid storage tanks in 1983. The ability to indefinitely hold a blast by providing a dry climate mechanically set off the beginning of a technology that would continue to advance for years to come.

Corrosion prevention and control for equipment is a costly and decreasingly effective activity for the Air Force, especially under scenarios to austere locations. One concept for remedy is a modular shelter, powered with mobile generators using integrated energy sources to reduce operational costs.
Commercial & Residential Coatings Inspection is emerging as a new market that will provide tactical and ground floor opportunities to those involved while bringing additional value to the architectural coatings industry as a whole. This presentation will provide insight to the participants on the recommended experience, skill set, and education required to set up a successful Commercial Coating inspection service or agency.
The purpose of surface preparation is to get a required adhesion between steel and the coated film. Adhesion is a significant factor for the suitability and life of protective coatings in corrosive surroundings. In the shipbuilding industry, air blasting with round blasting nozzles is common practice for achieving the productivity and proper surface profile. Generally, the round blasting nozzle cannot evenly spread the abrasive material on a steel surface compared with a rectangular nozzle.
This paper will discuss utilizing temporary dehumidification and climate control equipment to reduce corrosion levels during the installation of coatings and linings applications; the science of Psychrometrics, the science behind dehumidification, and discuss how the components interact on a coatings project.
The purpose of this presentation is to introduce you to low-pressure, ambient temperature spraying of polyurea and to discuss the advantages of low-pressure spray equipment. Some of the inherent advantages are equipment cost, ease of use, less over-spray, and equipment mobility. This presentation will be divided into several key areas. We will examine features and benefits, general equipment specifications, capabilities, operation of the system, typical periodic maintenance requirements and examples of available options.
Most effective and latest technology in corrosion prevention for protection of boiler systems, turbines, pumps, storage tanks, heat recovery steam generator systems, generators, and piping systems. Protection of the system is based on “temporary” corrosion inhibitors.
As the technology of dehumidification has developed over the last 25 years, the air conditioner has always played an active role, right along with its sister, the desiccant dehumidifier. The benefits of a refrigeration-based dehumidifier are both obvious and obscure.
There is a wide gulf in the industry between the capabilities of water jetting and wet abrasive blast equipment capabilities and the perception of their capabilities. The misinformation frequently leads to miscommunication between the various parties involved in projects where the equipment and associated standards are used.
Industry executives involved in industrial blasting and coating projects may find it surprising that climate control equipment typically used in those processes played a major role in recovery efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. This paper highlights how this equipment helped restore three important structures in New Orleans – the Louisiana Superdome, Notarial Archives and the evidence room of the New Orleans Police Department.
In the past, the present and undoubtedly in the future, coating specifications will be written and included in bid packages that will end up on your desk, mine and our fellow colleagues. Often these specifications are poorly written, boiler plated or haphazardly thrown together to hopefully provide us with enough information to successfully win and complete a given contract.
