This study was conducted to determine the root cause of aggressive corrosion due to wet NH4Cl salt deposition in reactor effluent streams in hydroprocessing units. In addition corrosion resistance and behavior of carbon steel and alloys in high-concentration NH4Cl solutions were investigated.

This paper describes the range of copper alloys in marine service today and the evolution of applications which include ships' cannon and hull sheathing in 18th and 19th century and condenser and seawater piping requirements which spurred concentrated investigations in the 20th century.
A Cr-Mo-B-Ti low alloyed steel, with a special quenched and tempered heat treatment, was designed. Corrosion fatigue resistance of the new material was evaluated at lab scale. Field tests are being carried out in 26 wells where sucker rods had failed for years.
