Moisture testing of concrete substrates has become a common practice in the floor coatings industry. Even though most contractors and field technicians are capable of performing the testing, they don’t really understand what the data they are collecting means, other than the acceptance criteria established by the product manufacturer of the coating or flooring being installed.
In order to understand the significates of the data collected through the testing we must understand the dynamics related to producing the results. There are numerous test methods used for determining the presence of moisture in concrete. However, this study focuses only on the most commonly used methods.
Adhesion performance is required for every coating system. The adhesion between coatings and substrates is one of the most critical determining factors in the overall success of any coating material. Material design and formulation are key components of high-performance coatings and rely heavily on the accurate measurement and evaluation of adhesion in the coating systems.

Current test regimes and acceptance levels as concerns the strong detrimental influence on toughness and corrosion resistance of intermetallic particles (IMP) in the microstructure of duplex stainless steels.
When protective coatings are to be applied to structures, it is important that the surface is clean and dry if premature failure of the coating is to be prevented and the full coating service life achieved. In many situations for both new build and repair of structures, blast cleaning of the surface is required to remove contamination and to create an anchor pattern to enhance the adhesion of the coating system to the substrate.
