It will present the means and methods to achieve a concrete surface suitable for sealer, coating, or lining application. At the conclusion of this discussion, the reader will understand the complexities and processes of how to prepare for and undertake appropriate surface repair and preparation of a concrete substrate. The reader will also have knowledge of the resources available from industry standards to Concrete Coatings Inspectors that will assure a satisfactory project outcome.
This paper will examine the formulation and performance of new, activated zinc epoxy primers compared to conventional zinc-rich epoxy primers. We will demonstrate comparable corrosion resistance at reduced zinc levels in the dried film (Level 3 ≥65%) and show that zinc metal levels can be reduced to as low as 31% by weight without compromising galvanic corrosion protection while improving adhesion and mechanical properties of the dry film.

This paper outlines the aggressive service conditions experienced by wellhead casings and the resulting failures seen to date in the Alberta oil patch.
