Laboratory and field experiment results show that the soil resistivity is the main influencing factor of the cathodic protection current distribution of horizontal directional drilling. This article also gives a test method for effectiveness of cathodic protection of HDD.
The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) process represents a significant improvement over traditional cut and cover methods for installing pipelines beneath obstructions. However, cathodic protection monitoring at HDD locations is typically limited to the entry/exit extremities, with protection levels in the intervening span either assumed or speculated. In this essay, the theoretical calculation method of current distribution on HDD will be shared. The laboratory and field experiment results show that the soil resistivity is the main influencing factor of the cathodic protection current distribution of the HDD. This article also gives a test method for the effectiveness of cathodic protection of HDD.
Key words: Horizontal directional drilling, Cathodic protection, Current and Potential Distribution
Case histories where throttling down the cathodic protection was evaluated to determine the impact on reducing the AC corrosion threat. Includes the use of fast-response electrical resistance corrosion rate probe monitoring technology.
