Much of the experience we have with conventional fuels is based on years of research, testing, and
manufacturing and service experience. At the present time, many new and alternative fuels are being
developed and brought to market with new feedstocks and manufacturing processes. Due to the relative
recent nature of some alternative fuels and scale-up to mass production, these fuels may be potentially
variable and have issues related to corrosion. This paper presents a review of recent research and current
service experience in fuel grade ethanol (FGE) and biodiesel and particularly focuses on the potential for
environmental degradation of materials and systems due to corrosion and SCC.
