Biodiesel is derived from biomass organic matter coming from vegetables or animals which can be used for energy production and therefore is considered a biofuel. Because it is less polluting and constitutes a source of renewable energy biodiesel has an important role in the fuel sector. The biodiesel by itself or mixed in different proportions with diesel (petroleum derivative) can replace the diesel oil whether in ciclodiesel automotive engines (trucks tractors vans cars) or in stationary engines (electricity or heat generators). However data on the corrosion of metals when in contact with biodiesel/diesel blends as well as information about the influence of the metallic corrosion products in biodiesel/diesel blends quality are still poorly understood. Therefore the objective of this work was to study the compatibility between biodiesel/diesel blends and different metallic materials with focus on the blend quality and on the integrity of facilities used during transportation and storage. For this purpose the chosen metallic materials were carbon steel (AISI 1020) electrolytic copper (alloy C11000) brass (alloy C26800) aluminum (alloy AA 1100) and stainless steel (AISI 316). The study was conducted through laboratory immersion tests aging tests and NACE TM-0172 tests.
