Although many investigations on the corrosion behaviour of metals and alloys in chlorine containing atmospheres have been performed, there has still been a lack of understanding of the influence of the alloying
elements on the corrosion resistance in commercial alloys. Therefore, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the role of different alloying elements on the corrosion resistance of various commercial alloys in oxidizing chlorine containing environments at 800°C. Nickel base and iron base, as well as nickel-molybdenum alloys were chosen for the oxidation testing.
