The types of alloys considered for such well designs and corrosive environments are 17Cr (17Cr-5Ni-2.5Mo-2.5Cu-lowC) and super duplex stainless steels (UNS S39274).On completion of these wells the perforated pay zone may require acid stimulation to remove and clean up debris and therefore permit unrestricted hydrocarbon flow. Also later in the well life carbonate scale may deposit in the completion which needs to be removed with a scale dissolver treatment. A number of different acid stimulation packages are available for this purpose but they are considered corrosive. So they require corrosion inhibitor packages to prevent severe corrosion damage to the wells CRA tubing and liner sections.In this paper acid based treatment chemicals have been tested for their corrosiveness on the CRA materials 17Cr and super duplex stainless steels. A corrosion testing program aimed at evaluating these stimulation acid/scale dissolver packages was designed and performed to determine which package(s) were least corrosive and acceptable for use with wells constructed with 17Cr and super duplex stainless steels tubulars.Laboratory exposure corrosion tests were carried out in autoclaves under a nitrogen blanket at temperatures between 70 to 130 °C.  The stimulation acid/scale dissolver packages consisted of 10%HCl 15%HCl and 9%HCl plus 1%HF including corrosion inhibitors and intensifiers. The corrosion resistance of the tested materials was evaluated in terms of mass loss selective and localized corrosion.The range of applicability and compatibility against the tested alloys was defined.Key words: CRA Deep Water High Pressure Wells Matrix acidizing 17Cr stainless steel duplex stainless steel UNS S39274.
