Tralopyril was developed as a marine antifouling agent for use in antifouling coatings. The compound has been registered with the US EPA since 2007. Since then, a range of marine coatings have been developed utilizing tralopyril for control of barnacles and other invertebrate animal fouling organisms, frequently, but not exclusively, in combination with a soft fouling control agent.
Oxygen diffusivity Dox is a key parameter in modeling corrosion rate of steel in concrete. Measuring Dox can be a complicated and slow process in conditions or geometries not always representative of those encountered by rebar in concrete. A method is introduced that eliminates someof those difficulties by using transient cathodic current measurements in reinforced concrete specimenssubject to alternating air/nitrogen mixtures. Experimental examples and modeling simulations are presented.
Combinatorial chemistry is a laboratory technique in which millions of molecular constructions can be synthesized and tested as candidates for new drugs, new catalysts, shorter manufacturing process, or novel molecules for specific targets. Since investigative science experiments were established and results measured, basic and applied science has been translated into useful applications. Translational Corrosion Science, the subject of the SSPC 2015 presentation by the Department of Defense Corrosion (DoD) Prevention and Control Program, is a science-based process to accelerate the development and application of high-quality solutions to difficult material degradation problems, and to do so more economically. DoD has launched the translational corrosion science program, assisted by the National Defense University and Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, to fully develop the process concept and to implement the approach.

Historically, the Bureau of Reclamation observed coating service lives of 50 to 80 years when lining its water conveyance structures with coal tar enamel. Changes to regulations have largely eliminated coal tar enamel as a field coating option, and existing coal tar enamel is beginning to show signs of degradation or has already been repaired or recoated. Reclamation has been working to find an appropriate alternative to coal tar enamel.
Through the course of any project, communication is the key element for success. In the coatings industry, a lack of communication by project stakeholders can show up in a very short time following project completion. This can be in the form of premature failures, shorter equipment service life, etc. We have found that this gap in communication often exists on the planning and implementation side of wastewater treatment projects. As professionals we have a tendency to hear, but not listen.
