During commissioning of a LNG facility accelerated corrosion resulted in the perforation of tubes in a NGL Stabilizer Reboiler.Although the stabilizer system was designed to process only light hydrocarbons modifications during fabrication of upstream equipment resulted in the introduction of aqueous phases in the stabilizer system. Also introduction of oxygen into the system in a unexpected form resulted in the breakdown of amine carry-over products in that aqueous phase creating low pH conditions that promoted the accelerated corrosion of the carbon steel equipment.
