The use of coatings in service environments where soluble salt contamination of the substrate is suspected. Detection, removal, and testing. Cost-to-benefit ratio.
Or
This technical committee report is intended to provide information concerning the use of coatings in service environments where soluble salt contamination of the substrate is suspected. Ideally, it is desirable to have no soluble salts present on the surface to be coated; however, there is a cost associated with their detection, removal, and testing. These associated surface preparation costs provide incentive for risk assessment to balance the cost-to-benefit ratio of reducing or removing salts that may be present. Key words: Salts, Substrates, Surface Preparation, Contamination
Case histories show that non-visible contamination may result in rapid coating failure. Physical and chemical tests to detect same. Remediation measures. Reagents, materials, tools, procedures & results.
