As part of an internal Research and Development effort, the company’s recommended CO2 corrosion
model has been updated. The model is being updated from the semi-empirical models of de Waard et
al. to a more mechanistic approach, which models each of the cathodic and anodic reactions within a
common framework based on the developments of Gray, Nesic, and Nordsveen et al. Establishing a
consistent internal framework allows the corrosion model to be expanded beyond the effects of just
CO2 (H2CO3 and H+ reduction) to include the effects of acetic acid (HAc) and O2. All these effects are
treated consistently within the water chemistry, flow and electrochemistry modules. Also,
recommendations are made in terms of corrosion inhibition limits.
