For non-load bearing applications using composite materials the polymer matrix typically governs the
corrosion performance of the composite. However, in load bearing applications using glass fiber
reinforced composite materials the choice of glass fibers is crucial for the long term structural
performance of the composite. A number of choices of different glass fibers types are available and not
all are suited for corrosive environments. All of these types and their specialty applications will be
discussed with attention focused mainly on the most widely used standard E-glass and boron-free Eglass.
