Close-interval potential surveys are one of the primary tools used to evaluate mitigation
systems for external corrosion on pipelines. Many industry consensus standards and federal,
state and local regulations refer to these types of surveys. NACE SP0207-2007 defines
requirements for pre-job considerations, instrumentation and equipment, minimization of
measurement errors such as IR drop and dynamic stray current, pipe location and marking,
and data validity and post-job analysis. Additional considerations may be necessary in order to
perform a safe, valid, and cost-effective survey.
