This paper discusses the challenges faced in the selection of corrosion and erosion monitoring
techniques for deepwater developments with both subsea and topside facilities. The challenges are
most pronounced when such fields produce corrosive, high pressure and temperature fluids, and/or
are expected to produce sand. Limitation of technology particularly for subsea applications requires
close collaboration between the operating companies and equipment manufacturers to further
develop the technologies to meet the project needs. This will extend to selection of the most
appropriate technologies and optimization of the monitoring techniques to provide an integrated
monitoring system for subsea and topside facilities capable of providing asset integrity for the life of
the asset.
