This paper deals with the electrochemical investigations on three (Capric, Lauric and Myristic acids) different long chain carboxylic acids as inhibitors that were studied in a solution of water and an alcohol at pH of 8.4 - 8.5. The Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopic (EIS) and potentiodynamic anodic polarization experiments were conducted on AI 2024 and A1 6061 specimens in the solutions containing these inhibitors to determine the effectiveness of these inhibitors. Among the three acids, Lauric acid was found to be the most effective in inhibiting the uniform and localized corrosion. This acid was found to be more effective on A1 6061 than on A1 2024. Further addition of BenzoTriazole (BTA) and sodium nitrate (NaNO3) considerably improved the localized corrosion resistance of A1 2024.
