The rapid curing and rapid project completion characteristics of reinforced inorganic zinc and polyaspartic ester technology enables new windmills to receive two-coat systems and be ready for shipment within 12 hrs. Significant cost reduction and optimization of life cycle costs are achieved for both new construction and maintenance projects using this technology.
The first part of this paper describes the chemistry and laboratory testing of novel reinforced inorganic zinc and polyaspartic ester coatings used for the corrosion protection of windmills. In the second part of this paper a case history is discussed where these applicator friendly conventional application - coating systems have been applied to windmills.
This presentation briefly updates a two-part article printed in Water Engineering & Management in 2001. It begins with the benefits of waterborne coatings and gives examples of where they may be used.

Polyaspartic coatings can offer excellent performance characteristics typically expected of SSPC Specification Number 36, Level 3, for Aliphatic Polyurethane Topcoats. In addition, polyaspartates will pass an industry standard for corrosion protection in medium corrosivity environments direct to metal. These features offer the typical industrial maintenance customer high performance for gloss and color retention, while reducing application time and costs.
Recent advances in the realm of polyaspartic ester finish coat technology have led to significant improvements in their aesthetic and corrosion resistance properties. Of particular interest is an initial comparison of the aesthetic properties of older and new generation polyaspartic ester finishes with both polyurethanes and isocyanate-free polysiloxane finishes.
