The wastewater industry embraces “going green” but it is not just about the latest and greatest VOC compliant products on the market. Green starts with advanced coatings technology and the knowledge and support of the industry professionals from design to completion and beyond.
Concrete is inherently durable – nevertheless, deterioration occurs when subjected to weathering or aggressive environments. For many years, coatings have been applied for aesthetic purposes. The BNY Mellon faced the considerable challenge of repainting the exterior of the 54-story, metal sided One Mellon Center located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Located in the heart of the downtown, traditional methods of surface preparation and coating application were not viable options. BNY Mellon took the unusual approach of designing the entire project, from the means and methods, to equipment & staging versus the more traditional process of letting a painting contractor design the work sequence and approach.
Coating application projects require coordination and communication between the owner, specifier, coating manufacturer, and applicator in order to succeed.
