The United States Marine Corps (USMC) Corrosion Prevention and Control (CPAC) Program

The USMC CPAC Program provides a holistic approach to corrosion engineering on ground vehicles. This starts with the acquisition of a new system, where CPAC will work with the Program Manager (PM) to develop the contractual requirements for corrosion prevention and aid in the evaluation and verification of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to meeting those requirements.

This starts with the acquisition of a new system, where CPAC will work with the Program Manager (PM) to develop the contractual requirements for corrosion prevention and aid in the evaluation and verification of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to meeting those requirements. CPAC will continue to work with the PM as weapon systems are fielded to verify performance, track condition and recommend maintenance activities to support any Service Life Extension Program (SLEP). In this capacity the CPAC Program has contractor run Corrosion Service Teams (CSTs) that perform organizational-level maintenance on vehicles such as repainting and preservative application. Additionally, they support full system repaint activities at Corrosion Repair Facilities (CRFs) and depots. Lastly, the CPAC Program maintains an applied Research, Development, Testing and Engineering (RDT&E) effort aimed at evaluating and identifying changes to the state-of-the-art in corrosion prevention relevant to USMC platforms. This includes the evaluation of corrosion prevention and control technologies identified by USMC personnel, the review of new coatings systems for corrosion prevention, evaluation of improved methods to monitor and predict corrosion on vehicles, the development of improved test methods to simulate long-term performance, etc. This paper will present an overview of the CPAC program.
