Breakdown causes of cupper/cupper sulfate (Cu/CuSO4) permanent reference electrodes which placed in soil have been analysed and durability ways were revealed. Breakdown of cupper/cupper sulfate (Cu/CuSO4) permanent reference electrodes occurs because of internal electrolyte’s copper ions lack primordial shortage of copper sulfate crystals bonding of copper ions into an insoluble deposition a large area of membrane. Wrong values of coupon potentials can be conditioned by coppering process of the coupons and potential shift to positive direction by this reason.Cupper/cupper sulfate (Cu/CuSO4) permanent reference electrodes’ service life increase ways were offered.Problems which appear by an application of cupper/cupper sulfate permanent reference electrodes could be avoid to an advantage of silver-chlorine reference electrodes which deprived the most above-listed shortcomings.Using of silver-chlorine reference electrodes in soils and the “100 mV shift” protection criterion are offered for discussion.
