This AMPP standard defines standard practices for new carbon steel (CS) pressure vessels to be used in petroleum refining wet hydrogen sulfide (H2S)-containing environments, with the recommended steps for resisting the damage mechanisms listed below. It covers materials, welding, testing, and other fabrication requirements. It is intended to be used by refiners, equipment fabricators, engineering contractors, and construction contractors.

Pond investigated pressure vessel tank failures which are causing recurring maintenance of $250,000 per year. This challenging project had limitations of space, operational time pressures/vessel availability requirements, cost and replacement variables. This presentation will chronical problems and discuss best practices of specifications, material selection, surface preparation, and application inspection that would have prevented the aforementioned outcome. This paper discusses the fundamentals of composite coatings, industry accepted design standards for their use, and examples of typical uses for these materials that solve problems in varied industries.
Materials selection, fabrication, postweld heat treatment, inspection, and testing practices for pressure vessels to reduce the likelihood of low-temperature hydrogen damage in wet H2S environments.

DOWNLOADABLE HISTORICAL DOCUMENT. Detection, repair, and mitigation of cracking of carbon steel pressure vessels, including columns, heat exchangers, drums, reboilers & separators in wet H2S petroleum refinery environments.
This standard establishes guidelines to prevent most forms of environmental cracking of weldments in carbon steel refinery equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, valve bodies, and pump and compressor cases. Weldments are defined to include the weld deposit, base metal HAZ, and adjacent base metal zones subject to residual stresses from welding. It defines standard practices for producing weldments in P-No. 1 steels resistant to environmental cracking in corrosive petroleum refining environments. This standard is maintained by Task Group 326.
