Third-party paint inspection contracts provided an immediate, tangible benefit in supplying a qualified, certified coating inspector full-time to a painting project. Inspectors could be rapidly deployed and provided someone to the project with broad experience in painting projects; however, simply providing a third-party contract paint inspector to a project did not always ensure the project was completed properly.
A method to test new surface preparation techniques for preparing existing offshore structures for maintenance painting has been developed. This paper will explain how the tests were conducted, how effective each method was at removing salts, and how the coatings performed in the ISO and NASA tests.
Details of a new protocol for evaluating the effectiveness of coatings to reduce corrosion of steel structures is presented in this paper. Basic concepts of accelerated testing specified in American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards and recent research investigations were used to develop a procedure that can provide conclusive results within 2400 hours of exposure as compared to more than 5000 hours in current practices.
Recent polyurea resin technology advances have allowed for the development of value-added polyurea topcoats that are proving to be valuable alternatives for many polyurethane applications. The development of an SSPC specification for a weatherable polyurea topcoat is discussed for the purpose of providing a standard that will be acceptable throughout our industry.
This presentation will define what a containment / work platform is for the removal of lead paint for steel structures. Additional topics of discussion will include the design process for containment systems, submission requirements/reviews, containment system installation, and quality control procedures and component review and acceptance in the field by Engineers and Inspectors.
Computerized maintenance painting management programs are used to inventory painted items, maintain historical coating data, optimize the scheduling of painting activities, and develop budget estimates for the work. While the sophisticated programs are quite effective, their true benefit is not realized unless someone takes ownership of the program, updates the data every few years, and uses the wealth of planning information that is available.
This research paper describes the various predicaments and issues to enhance the effectiveness of environmentally responsible food grade paint, which helps in maximizing safety and reducing the risk of corrosion. The presentation of this report will consider the characteristics of food grade paint as well as enumerates the companies that produce food grade paint.
What does a budding entrepreneur who wants to buy an industrial paint company need to know? Just as important, what kind of person does he/she need to be? This paper will suggest answers to these and the related questions pertaining to the type of business the prospective owner should look for and advice about the period of transition to full ownership.
Traditional paper documentation leads to several issues in both the field and home office. Paper documentation processes cause compliancy problems, poor data entry, and difficult communication between employees. Keeping data secure can also be problematic with paper reporting leading to inefficiency.
