NACE STG 02 and STG 03 are sponsoring onNACE 2014 Oil/Gas Coating Technology SymposiumAs shipping continues to face ever challenging market trends vessel owners are constantly scrutinising operating costs. Furthermore regulators are also paying closer attention to the translocation of invasive species that can be carried across the world on the outside of vessels and offshore platforms that are built in one location and operate in another. Over the years coatings suppliers have addressed the issue of bio-fouling build-up by using anti-foulings that use active biocides to deter fouling growth. Biocide-free silicone technology has also been developed that is particularly effective in static water conditions. Anti-fouling coatings have come a long way and although technologies can be effective at certain water flow rates against barnacle and weed growth technologies continue to struggle against slime or micro-organism build-up. This paper presents novel patented technology that greatly reduces the build-up of slime in calm waters.
