Novel Raw Materials for Enhanced Polyurea Coatings Performance

A series of novel isocyanates based on low-free monomer TDI prepolymer technology has been developed for spray polyurea applications. Coatings formulated using these new raw materials have shown significantly higher tensile strength, modulus, abrasion resistance and tear strength compared to conventional MDI-based isocyanates.

In addition to the improved polymer physical properties, the incorporation of TDI into the polyurea modestly increases gel time and tack-free time, resulting in smoother surface appearance as well as improved surface wetting and adhesion. These new raw materials offer a new, differentiated formulating tool for the polyurea industry.
