Importantly, 2K waterborne epoxy coatings formulated with the new system adhere well even to difficult and oily substrates, are fast drying for early recoat ability, and even wet-on-wet application is possible. They can also be applied with high film builds and offer excellent corrosion protection. Furthermore, because the coatings have an extremely smooth finish, no sanding is required. These attractive properties make coatings formulated with the new hardener suitable for numerous end-uses in the industrial, railway, agriculture and construction equipment, and military sectors and offer the potential to significantly increase the end user’s profitability.

Bis-Phenol A epoxy resin-based coatings are known for excellent corrosion and chemical resistance. Limitations of this class of coatings are poor flexibility, thermal stability and weather resistance.  Traditional siloxane resins are commonly used in the industry to improve the thermal and weather resistance of bis-Phenol A epoxy coatings. In addition, organo-functional silicone polymers have been used to provide improved flexibility, but create recoatability issues.
