The inhibition effect of a kind of imidazoline base inhibitor on the corrosion of carbon steel under various conditions of pre-corrosion was studied using autoclave potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the steel surface. The results indicate the influence of pre-corrosion status on the corrosion rate and the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitor. Different kinds of corrosion products on the steel surface will play an important role on and significantly affect the inhibition effect.
