The effect of microstructure and composition on the oxidation behavior of Inconel 718 processed by addictive manufacturing is being evaluated and compared with oxidation behavior of wrought IN718. To study the role of alloy processing microstructure and composition the high temperature oxidation behavior of alloy 718 will be compared in various oxidizing (steam air with 0% and 10%H2O) environments at 650øC-800øC after exposure for 1000h. Oxidation in wet air simulates turbine combustion environments and causes net mass losses at 650ø-700øC because of the volatilization of Cr oxy-hydroxides that is not observed in ambient air testing. Initial results on wrought 718 alloy showed an increase in internal oxidation attack with increasing temperature.
