This report investigates the environmental variables associated with stress corrosion cracking (SCC) found on multiple natural gas pipeline segments. Technicians collected environmental data at direct examination sites on eleven pipelines classified as SCC susceptible from 2015-2019. All SCC colonies bserved during these direct examinations were on six pipelines with wax coatings. Two hundred seventy-nine excavations were completed on wax coated pipelines from 2015-2019. SCC was confirmed by metallurgical analysis at thirty-two of these excavations. Based on this data set, environmental variables correlated with observed SCC on wax coated lines include depressions and inclined topography, poor drainage, soil with organics and moraine depositional environments.
