The corrosion behavior of duplex stainless steel(DSS) in H2S-Cl- environment has been discussed for a long time. However there has been limited work conducted in environments where high concentration of H2S CO2 and Cl- coordinated to cause localised corrosion of DSS.

In this paper the electrochemical behavior of 2205 DSS was investigated in environments containing 60kPa H2S 40kPa CO2 and 150000ppm Cl- at 60?. The pH in test environments was adjusted to 4.5 3.5 3.3 and 3.0 respectively by adding different content of CH3COOH. Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were conducted to reveal the effect of pH on electrochemical behavior of 2205 DSS. From the cyclic potentiodynamic polarization curves some important characterisation parameters such as Ecorr Epit Epp ?E and Ipass were obtained and analysed. The EIS datas were analysed by using equivalent circuit and calculating the values of relavant elements. The results indicated that decrease of pH accelerated corrosion process and made passive film more susceptible to be attacked.
