Examples of decorative painting can be found from the earliest moments of man’s existence and have evolved throughout history in synchronicity with our life styles; expressing our tastes, our status, our standards and values.

Are there practical uses for “gilding the lily”? This is one of the many questions I will be addressing in this paper.
