The drive to embellish and beautify our surroundings is a human motivation that bridges both culture and time. From vases to vaulted ceilings, across the globe we captivate ourselves with ornament, decorating the objects that we create, the homes we live in and the spaces in which we work and worship. Examples of decorative painting can be found from the earliest moments of man’s existence and have evolved throughout history in synchronicity with our life styles; expressing our tastes, our status, our standards and values.

However, beyond taste, style and the general human desire to beautify, what are the practical uses and reasons for applying layers of texture, pattern, color and sheen upon the “bare bones” of form? Are there practical uses for “gilding the lily”? This is one of the many questions I will be addressing in this paper.
In this study, a new portable garnet blasting unit targets for weld joints in W.B.T. was developed. The field data clearly indicated that the potable garnet blasting method can be a valuable tool for small damaged area and weld seam in confined area with increase in the blasting productivity by 20%. In order to predict and optimize the pressure drop and air consumption in air blasting system, semi-empirical equations have been developed

This paper will present the fundamental steps necessary for a detailed condition assessment of the existing coatings of steel bridges.
This paper will focus on the application of polymeric coatings and linings, which include, but are not limited to, polyamine and novolac epoxies and vinyl esters. These materials are delivered to the job site in buckets or bags and are mixed and applied on-site, and it is the responsibility of the owner, engineer and material supplier to determine the type of material and coating system to specify for any particular project.
