With the increasing complexity of inline inspection (ILI) tools and their capability to make multiple data measurements using different inspection technologies comes the ability to create higher resolution characterization of pipeline anomalies. Because each pipeline has different conditions (i.e. material properties coating corrosion types etc.) there are limitations of generalizing the tool performance in laboratory conditions to field conditions even with historical data from previous performance.Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) has normally been used to validate inline inspection performance but this paper puts forth a method of using NDE to increase the accuracy of a pipeline survey. Using high resolution NDE surveys (i.e. laser mapping phased array UT etc.) combined with information from the multiple data modalities recorded by the ILI tool allows a method to adapt the ILI inspection to the specific details of the pipeline being inspected and for future inspections.
