In recent years there has been increasing interest in corrosion in supercritical and liquid carbon dioxide. Much of this relates to carbon capture schemes but there are also production facilities that can experience extreme conditions in terms of carbon dioxide “partial pressure”.In general corrosion control in these conditions relies on effective dehydration and there is very little work on the possibility of using corrosion inhibitors in the event of ineffective dehydration or water “excursions” as could be done with conventional nominally dry gas systems. This paper describes procedures including electrochemical monitoring methods for studying corrosion inhibition in wet supercritical carbon dioxide systems and the initial results of these tests.
