Solvent based coatings carry application and removal costs, disposal and storage costs, material cost, and others. Environmentally friendly products have been developed and implemented to alleviate these concerns. The paper explores alternatives to traditional coatings.

These types of coatings present a number of challenges including: application and removal costs disposal and storage costs (VOC permit cost) material cost and others. Environmentally friendly products have been developed and implemented to alleviate these concerns. The scope of this paper is to explore environmentally desirable alternatives to traditional coatings.

Protective polymeric coatings containing active biocides are an approach to address material loss due to corrosion and fouling of steel surfaces. Tests were done on a hybrid epoxy-siliconized coating was synthesized and embedded with biocides.

Offshore is a very corrosive environment with a high corrosion rate. The offshore coating service life is relatively short and extremely expensive to apply maintenance coatings onsite. A new accelerated coating corrosion test method is proposed.
Corrosion resistance of stainless steels and nickel alloys is due to alloying elements. The most important elements are Cr, Mo, N and sometimes W. This paper compares the effect of these elements in pitting and crevice corrosion.
