NACE RP-01-1972 final publication as NACE RP0180-2001 was withdrawn by NACE International on 6/1/2010. This document was not replaced.

HISTORICAL DOCUMENT.

The current emphasis by government authorities on environmental quality has prompted many pulp and paper mills to install treatment systems for plant effluent, including clarifiers to concentrate insoluble solids for further treatment. This Recommended Practice is intended to serve as a general guide to the establishment of an effective cathodic protection system for any effluent clarifier. It does not provide exact procedures for specific equipment as clarifiers exist in many sizes and variations of design.

This Recommended Practice was prepared by Task Group. T-SH-2 of Unit Committee T-SH on Corrosion Problems in the Pulp and Paper Industry and is issued by Group Committee T-S on Corrosion Problems in the Process Industries.

This Recommended Practice presents accepted practices for the cathodic protection of those metallic components of effluent clarifiers which are in contact with water.

The provisions of this Recommended Practice should be applied under the direction of a corrosion engineer. The term corrosion engineer, as used in this Recommended Practice, refers to a person, who, by reason of his knowledge of the physical sciences and the principles of engineering and mathematics, acquired by professional education and related practical experience, is qualified to engage in the practice of corrosion control.
