Published percent volume solids data have been used for years by painting contractors, coating manufacturers, and inspectors to calculate the target wet film thickness to apply. This paper explores the reliability of  this value (for this purpose) by measuring and calculating actual wet-to-dry ratios, and comparing these values to the manufacturers’ published volume solids for both waterborne and solvent borne industrial coatings.
