Proactive corrosion management is essential in maintaining the integrity of offshore assets particularly for systems operating beyond their original design life. The UK Regulator (HSE) has recently put in place an initiative (KP4) which requires duty holders to specifically address the issues of ageing assets and to justify how they will effectively manage the integrity of such assets into the future. Corrosion management schemes (CMS) that will drive effective inspection programmes should be developed. Traditionally topsides plant subsea pipelines and terminals have had separate CMS but with KP4 an approach that integrates the separate schemes into a unified CMS will prove beneficial. MACAW has developed a number of integrated Corrosion Control Strategies (CCS) for ageing assets for a major North Sea operator. The CCS is divided into Corrosion Control Matrices which define essential actions to mitigate corrosion risks and Key Performance Indicators to monitor the effectiveness of the management scheme. This paper describes an integrated CCS developed by MACAW together with details of integrity tools within CMS and their application across a number of North Sea assets.
