This presentation - looks at the - process behind proposals, submittal practices, evaluation and value proposition of alternative protective coatings systems to conventional specified systems. Currently, there are many new coatings solutions and technologies that offer savings in time and dollars over older, though proven, technologies. Design-build or Build-at-Risk construction methods are rapidly over taking the standard bidding methods; therefore, we will identify when the use of coatings and linings become part of this process and how can they be used to develop a project. We will examine this from the Specifier’s, General Contractor’s, Applicator’s and Owner’s viewpoint. The end goal is to demonstrate how the process of presenting, evaluating and accepting alternative coatings solutions would have a positive impact on the project for the benefit of the client.
