The general corrosion rate of three nickel based alloys was measured using immersion tests and electrochemical techniques. The tested alloys were Ni-28.5Mo, Ni-25Mo-8Cr and Ni-23Cr-l 6M0-1 .6CUalloys and the electrolytes were hydrochloric and suhric acids at temperatures ranging from 52°C to the respective boiling points. Good agreement between immersion and electrochemical tests was found. As predicted by the chemical composition of the alloys, the Ni-28.5Mo alloy had the lowest corrosion rate in reducing conditions and the Ni-23Cr-16Mo-l .6CUalloy had the lowest corrosion rate in oxidizing conditions. In general, the corrosion behavior of the Ni-25Mo-8Cr alloy is closer to that of the Ni-28.5Mo alloy than to that of the Ni-23Cr-l 6M0-1 .6CUalloy. For similar acid concentrations, the corrosion rate of all alloys was higher in hydrochloric acid than in sulfh.ric acid. The effects of the temperature, electrolyte composition and alloy composition on the general corrosion rate are discussed. Keywords: B-3, 242, C-2000 alloys, sulfbric acid, hydrochloric acid, ferric ions, oxidizing conditions, reducing conditions, temperature, alloy composition.
