Electrochemical hydrogen permeation measurements are sensitive to quite a number of equipment and operating parameters. An in-depth look at these parameters is presented including such things as cell volume, cell shape, cell material induced potential, electrical instrumentation, solution type and concentration, water quality, measurement temperature, surface preparation and time delays. In order to have universally comparable hydrogen permeation values a standard for both, equipment and technique must be used. The basis is suggested for this standard along with methods for controlled reproducible charging with minimal scatter, which allows a calibration of the equipment and method to be conducted.
