Cold weather climates present unique challenges for both oil field operators and chemical suppliers. Suppliers need to ensure that the cold weather will not adversely affect the performance and safe handling of their products. Frozen chemicals maybe hazardous to handle, and their physical properties maybe altered due to freezing and thawing cycles. While large oil field operations maybe able to store chemicals in heated
buildings, smaller operations may not enjoy that same option. This paper will describe the considerations which went into the development of a freeze proofed blend of glutaraldehyde which was developed expressly for use in cold weather oilfields.
