SweetCor is a unique system that manages information related to sweet corrosion of steels in water. It archives a large database of corrosion observations under well-defined conditions; it assesses the thermochemistry in the corrosive environment; it predicts corrosion; and, it teaches about corrosion of steels in contact with water and carbon dioxide. Corrosion of steels by water and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) occurs over wide ranges of conditions and is not likely to be adequately described by a single mechanism or mathematical model. To address this, SweetCor groups data using two different approaches. One approach is to group the data by predetermined ranges of temperature and CO2 partial pressure for flowing conditions. The other approach is to group data according to the combination of the stable corrosion product and a flow/stagnant criterion. Statistical analyses of the data grouped by both of these approaches are used to produce correlations. These correlations are used to predict corrosion for specific combinations of environmental conditions.
