During two previous field trial evaluations, ozone failed to provide acceptable levels of control as a corrosion and scale inhibitor. In order to confirm prior results, a third trial site was closely monitored using both a mobile cooling water laboratory and inspections of plant equipment. The data presented confirms the results from the other sites and shows that ozone was effective neither as a scale nor a corrosion inhibitor. Furthermore, significant sessile biofouling developed, which was also consistent with previously reported results. Based on this data, it appears that ozone should not be considered for any role other than biological control (or the destruction of organics in make-up water supplies) at industrial sites with similar conditions.
