A new generation real-time monitoring and control system for cooling water treatment has been developed to realize the best performance of the cooling water treatment program and to minimize non-value-added manual activities for cooling water operation. The system consists of a controller, sensors, performance monitoring systems, data acquisition and management software, and communication device connecting with a computer system. The operating system is automatically controlled on site to stabilize cooling water quality and chemical concentration. Furthermore it can remotely adjust the blowdown rate(s) and chemical injection rate(s) through a radio telegraphic device far from the site. Performance monitoring units tell us not only the current chemical program perfomlance, but if there are upset conditions. When such upset conditions occur, corrective action can be taken immediately. After the corrective action, the recovery trends can bc confirmed by this systcm. All data provided from the site can be automatically accumulated by the data acquisition and management software and can be sent to the specific server located at the head office. One can check trends of operating conditions and the current pcrformance of a treatment program far from the site. This paper will introduce the above integrated system and some case histories.
